Japonesque BB/CC Cream Brush ($30)

This week, I was browsing Ulta's site because I had a 20% off coupon when I spotted a couple new brushes from Japonesque. I have three brushes from the company and I'm a big fan of all of them because they're well constructed and offer unique brush designs.

The new brush that really interested me was the BB/CC Cream Brush ($30).  There were no reviews on the Ulta page and I couldn't find any blog reviews, so I decided to be the guinea pig and share my thoughts.

See what I think of Japonesque's new BB/CC Cream Brush below!
I called my local Ulta and they didn't have it in-store yet, so I bit the bullet and bought it online. Since me only buying one thing on Ulta.com meant no free shipping, my 20% off coupon was negated almost, but I had to have it!

Here's how Japonesque descrbes the brush:
As a pioneer of the world's most exceptional make-up brushes Japonesque introduces the new BB/CC premium base brush. This ingenious professional mixed fiber brush is engineered with dual length bristles and a unique balance of natural and synthetic materials to deliver exquisite application and blending of BB and CC creams. The brush head is perfectly contoured and has a uniquely measured fiber density to roll and buff product over the skin for a glowing, hydrated and ultra-natural finish. Blends, blurs and diffuses cream over the skin in one simple application, creating the ultimate tool for achieving a feather-light nude skin look.

I'd been wanting a good brush to apply my BB creams as I find using my hands wastes time, since I obviously have to wash them afterwards. When I'm heading to work, I want to minimize as many steps as possible. In the past, I've applied my BB Creams using a Beauty Blender (which works great), but the Beauty Blender is not for those rushed mornings as you definitely have to wash and rinse the sponge every day. I've also tried the Sigma F80, and that works ok, but it's almost too dense for a BB Cream. Another brush I've tried is the Real Techniques stippling brush, but it's not dense enough. I feel like Goldilocks!

The ferrule of the brush is silver, but in certain light, it looks gold. Very chic! The handle is also on the shorter side compared to my other brushes.

A close-up of the natural and synthetic blend of duo-fibers. I agree with Japonesque's description that it's perfectly dense for BB or CC cream application.

Here's how it compares to the Real Techniques Stippling Brush, the Rite Aid Renewal Stippling Brush, and the Real Techniques Limited Edition Stippling Brush.

Application Demo Time!

Using Dr. Jart+'s Black Label Detox Beauty Balm (comes in one shade)

The description says to roll and buff the BB cream over the skin with the brush. I put one pump of the BB cream on the back of my hand, dabbed the brush into the product, then began buffing the BB cream on my cheeks with large circular motions. I immediately fell in love with the finish it gave on my skin and how quick the application went! The last thing I did was stipple more BB cream on the places I needed more coverage, like my nose area. The bristles aren't incredible soft when you stipple, but aren't scratchy either.

Here I am with Dr. Jart+ Black Label Beauty Balm ($36) applied with the Japonesque BB/CC Cream Brush. Also wearing Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Ivory ($7.99) under the eyes and on the bridge of the nose, Benefit Boi-ing Concealer in 01 ($20) on spots, and e.l.f. Studio Eyebrow Kit in Ash ($3) on the brows.

Overall Impressions

In the first use, this brush shed around 4 hairs. I hope that after I wash it the first time, it'll stop shedding. Still, this brush is great as it provides perfect coverage in no time flat! I'm 100% happy with my purchase!  The only thing to keep in mind is that you have to definitely have to wipe off the brush on a towel for spot cleaning. I also used this with Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation ($45) and the brush gave me an excellent finish. Go get this brush!

How do you apply your BB Cream? Are you interested in this brush?

  1. I think this looks like a great brush. It actually reminds me of a brush that Sephora just released called the Pro Large Domed Stippling Brush #41 - I've had my eye on that one since I saw it appear on the website. Your photos are great, and your skin just looks beautiful!

    1. Thanks Erin! It was just a good skin day. I just looked up the Sephora Pro Large Domed Stippling Brush — the brushes do look similar! I'd love a review if you end up picking that one up!

    1. Thanks Miss Louise! I know, this Japonesque brush may just be the first one specifically for BB/CC Creams! I'd love a review of the Japonesque makeup — I've been eyeing it at Ulta.

  3. Hiii love! Ok so I love my Smashbox BB cream and am definitely intrigued with your review, since I too have been using my hands to apply. Q: Do you feel like you waste any cream will get wasted by using the brush? I know a little always will, but I didn't know if you felt it was much more than just using hands. Would love to hear your thoughts. xo

    PS beautiful as always!

    1. I think about 10-15% of any cream or liquid product gets lost with brush application, but sometimes it's worth it because the finish it gives on the face can be much much nicer than just using hands. It's one of those things where you just gotta try it! Good thing Sephora and Ulta have great return policies! Miss you Amanda!

  5. I did not know that there is a brush that is designed to apply BB and CC creams. But your Japonesque BB/CC Cream Brush looks so cute. I like the color of your brush especially the black and white tip. I guess the brush leaves a flawless cc cream application and the coverage looks great on you.

    1. Hey Jen! Thanks! Yes, I believe this may just be the first one on the market specifically designed for BB/CC creams. I just tried it this morning with the new Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation, and the pair worked great together as well :)

  6. Maybe the first, but not the only one. H&M has a B.B. cream brush that's gotten plenty of great reviews. So does Ecotools which I personally absolutely love. I was interested in the Japonesque brush, but I don't like the price. Great finish, though.

    1. Hi Amelia! Thanks for letting me know about H&M's and the Eco Tools brushes! The only good thing about Japonesque is that I believe you can use almost all of Ulta's coupons for them to knock off a few bucks.

  7. If you try either of the ones from H&M or Ecotools let me know how they work :-) Ecotools brand, like I said, is a personal favorite. I did take a long deep breath, ignore the price, and picked up the Japonesque. Thanks for your detailed review on it.

    1. Is the B.B. cream you're using pretty good? The one I use is fantastic, but I wouldn't mind giving others a try to see how they compare. Also, can it work for light skin tones. I'm pretty pale and want to avoid the whole orange look.

    2. Not sure if this was for Amelia or me, but the Dr. Jart+'s Black Label Detox Beauty Balm is pretty good on me. It's not warm or orange leaning at all. It wouldn't be too good for super oily skintypes, but for normal skintypes who have light skin, this is excellent.
