There's A New NYX Taupe (It's Paraben-Free!)

Sunday, April 12, 2015

Recently, NYX reformulated their powder blushes and came out with a new HD line ($6.49 each).  Once I learned that their new HD line was paraben-free, I quickly scanned the list of available shades, and there's a new Taupe!

I have six blushes from their now discontinued powder blush line: Pinched (NARS Orgasm dupe), Terra Cotta (NARS Luster dupe), Mocha, Peach, Bourgeois Pig and Taupe (see my original review here). Many beauty lovers know that Taupe is the best affordable powder contour for fair-skinned ladies. It's got that perfect cool toned shade that passes for a shadow, which is perfect for sculpting the cheekbones. It's not a contour powder that I would recommend to contour other parts of the face as it may not look too natural, but for under the cheekbones, it's great!

Top Swatch: NYX HD Blush in Taupe (paraben-free)
Bottom Swatch NYX Powder blush in Taupe (discontinued)

When swatched, I did notice that the original blush has a slight sheen to it and leans a tiny bit more purple than the new blush, which is very matte and more brown in tone. It My HD blush also seemed to be more pigmented, but that could just be that my old blush is really old. One thing I noticed right away is that this new formula is a lot more powdery than the original, but I actually don't mind that.

I also noticed that the original powder blush had 4 grams of product, whereas this one has 4.5 grams. Another curious thing is that this has a 6 month expiration date, while the original had a 12 month expiration date. The original was made in China, and the new one is made in Taiwan. All NYX products are cruelty-free.

On the cheeks here, I'm wearing Benefit Watts Up as a highlighter, Milani powder blush in Coral Cove blush, NARS Laguna bronzer to warm up my complexion, and a tiny bit of NYX HD blush in Taupe as my cheek contour. I definitely need to use a light hand because Taupe could look way too obvious if applied heavily. Realistically, I'm only going to be adding Taupe to my routine for nights out, and I'll stick to just warming up the face with NARS Laguna during the days. Overall, I'm so happy this shade made it to the new HD line!
