YouTube Made Me Buy It Post #2: Drugstore Mascara Edition

Saturday, January 11, 2014

My second 'YouTube Made Buy It' post features drugstore mascara recommendations from Tati from GlamLifeGuru and Emily from Beauty Broadcast.
Tati from GlamLifeGuru is one of my favorite YouTubers. I love her personality and the quality of her videos is impeccable. She's definitely Physicians Formula's #1 fan on YouTube. Tati has recommended the Organic Wear mascaras in the past so I thought I'd give them a shot. In the picture above, the black mascara at the top is the Organic Wear 100% Natural Lash Boosting Mascara * $9.99 and the pink mascara at the bottom is the Organic Wear Fake Out Mascara * $9.99. Fake Out is supposed to give you more dramatic lashes than the original Natural Lash Boosting mascara, which gives you more of a natural daytime look. As much as I love that the formula for both mascaras is organic, I really don't like either. I don't like the hard plastic wands, they both smelled a little weird and they both flaked a lot on me. I will not be buying either again.

Emily from Beauty Broadcast is also a great YouTuber. She's peppy and very well spoken as she's a former news anchor. She has recommended the Maybelline Lash Discovery Mini Brush Mascara $7.49 as a drugstore dupe for Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara $10. Lash Discovery's tiny brush lets you get all those lower lashes and this mascara does not smudge at all! I really liked it, but unfortunately I will not repurchase as it's not paraben-free. In researching this post, I found out that Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara is not paraben-free either :(

Now the last mascara for this post is the CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara $8.99. I don't recall which YouTuber first talked about this mascara (it may have been at Tracy and Stefanie at EleventhGorgeous), but I'm pretty sure every guru has tried this one. Although the hard plastic brush wand is similar to PF Organic Wear's wands that I don't care for, the Clump Crusher gives me lots of definition, holds my curl and gives me great length as well. It really lives up to the clump crusher name and no there's no flaking or weird smell! Unfortunately, the Clump Crusher mascara is not paraben-free, so I will not be repurchasing it.

Overall, I'm glad I tried all these mascaras. My ultimate disappointment has to be the Physicans Formula Organic Wear line as it's organic and of course paraben-free, but I just cannot deal with the flaking and the weird smell. Since I won't be repurchasing the Clump Crusher or Lash Discovery because they contain parabens, the quest for my Holy Grail drugstore mascara continues!

What's your favorite drugstore mascara and why?
