First Impression Reviews: e.l.f.'s Studio Lip Exfoliator and MAC Lip Erase in "Pale"

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

I've been looking at two lip prep products, e.l.f.'s Lip Exfoliator and MAC Lip Erase, for awhile now and I recently picked them up. I'm very excited to bring them into my daily makeup routine.

Here are my first impression reviews!

 e.l.f. Studio Lip Exfoliator

I'd been eying e.l.f.'s Studio Lip Exfoliator because I wanted a portable, sanitary way to exfoliate my lips. A lot of lip exfoliators come in a tin form, so you can't get around having to stick your finger in a jar.

This guy comes in lipstick bullet packaging and contains Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils. The best part about it? It's only $3! The only CON I recognize in the ingredients is Aspartame, but what are you gonna do.

I picked up two: one for my vanity and one for my makeup bag for my purse.

Once I exfoliate my lips and and apply some Burt's Bees lip balm, I then move on to MAC Lip Erase.

MAC Lip Erase in Pale
Lip Erase, originally just a Pro product, is meant to cancel out your natural lip's color so that any lipcolor you apply shows true. This is especially helpful with lighter colors, like nudes and light pinks/peaches. This will come especially in handy for swatches for this blog, but of course I will be using it in real life too! I picked up Pale, the lighter of the two colors available. Pale is for light to medium skintones, while Dim is for medium to dark skintones. I have read that this can be drying on people's lips, but my first impression was that it seemed pretty moisturizing.

They give you tons of product for $20, so I know this is going to last me awhile. The only CON I see so far is that it's mainly made of petrolatum, and I try to stay away from that in lip care, but since this is such a unique product, I'm ok with it. Also, this unfortunately requires me to stick my finger in the product, so I'll have to Purell my hands before I use it.

All of the products I mention above I have purchased myself with my own money
or they have been gifts from family and friends.

  1. I just got that lip exfoliant too! I don't see aspartame in the ingredients though? Sucrose=sugar, which is what the big grains are. So no need to worry!

  2. Hey girl! You are right! I checked the elf site's ingredients and they do list Aspartame in the ingredients, maybe they changed the formulation? Question is, what's the most recent? Hoping the site's just outdated. http://www.eyeslipsface.com/studio/lips/lip_balm/lip_exfoliator
